Citation: V : 304 ( 2 ) P : 173-8 Year: 1997 Type: ARTICLE | Literature: oryza Field: abstract Doc ID: pub9449768 Accession (PMID): 9449768 | Abstract: Several glycosides of calystegines B1 and B2 were synthesized by use of rice alpha-glucosidase and the whole cells of Rhodotorula lactosa , and their glycosidase inhibitory activities were investigated .
Incubation of mixture of calystegine B1 and maltose with rice alpha-glucosidase gave 3-O-alpha-D-glucopyranosylcalystegine B1 ( 2 , 11 . 3% ) .
An enzymatic beta-transglucosylation reaction of calystegines B1 or B2 with cellobiose using the whole cells of R lactosa gave 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylcalystegine B1 ( 1 ) ( 0 . 9% ) or 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylcalystegine B2 ( 3 , 11 . 2% ) , respectively , while similar beta-transgalactosylation of calystegine B2 from lactose gave 4-O-beta-D-galactopyranosylcalystegine B2 ( 4 , 10 . 1% ) .
The glycosylation of calystegines B1 and B2 markedly decreased or abolished their inhibition against beta-glucosidase , alpha or beta-galactosidase .
Compound 4 however retained more or less the potency of calystegine B2 against trehalase .
Interestingly , compound 1 was a noncompetitive inhibitor of rice alpha-glucosidase , with a Ki value of 0 . 9 +/- 0 . 1 microM . | Matching Sentences: [ Sen. 3, subscore: 4.00 ]: An enzymatic beta-transglucosylation reaction of calystegines B1 or B2 with cellobiose using the whole cells of R lactosa gave 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylcalystegine B1 ( 1 ) ( 0 . 9% ) or 4-O-beta-D-glucopyranosylcalystegine B2 ( 3 , 11 . 2% ) , respectively , while similar beta-transgalactosylation of calystegine B2 from lactose gave 4-O-beta-D-galactopyranosylcalystegine B2 ( 4 , 10 . 1% ) . Score: 6.00 | Title: Predicting second gas-solid virial coefficients using calculated molecular properties on various carbon surfaces .
| Author: Rybolt TR Janeksela VE Hooper DN Thomas HE Carrington NA Williamson EJ .
| Journal: Citation: V : 272 ( 1 ) P : 35-45 Year: 2004 Type: ARTICLE | Literature: oryza Field: abstract Doc ID: pub14985020 Accession (PMID): 14985020 | Abstract: Gas-solid chromatography was used to obtain values of the second gas-solid virial coefficient , B2s , in the temperature range from 343 to 493 K for seven adsorbate gases : methane , ethane , propane , chloromethane , chlorodifluoromethane , dimethyl ether , and sulfur hexafluoride .
Carboxen-1000 , a 1200 m2/g carbon molecular sieve ( Supelco Inc . ) , was used as the adsorbent .
These data were combined with earlier work to make a combined data set of 36 different adsorbate gases variously interacting with from one to four different carbon surfaces .
All B2s values were extrapolated to 403 K to create a set of 65 different gas-solid B2s values at a fixed temperature .
The B2s value for a given gas-solid system can be converted to a chromatographic retention time at any desired flow rate and can be converted to the amount of gas adsorbed at any pressure in the low-coverage , Henrys law region .
Beginning with a theoretical equation for the second gas-solid virial coefficient , various quantitative structure retention relations ( QSRR ) were developed and used to correlate the B2s values for different gas adsorbates with different carbon surfaces .
Two calculated adsorbate molecular parameters ( molar refractivity and connectivity index ) , when combined with two adsorbent parameters ( surface area and a surface energy contribution to the gas-solid interaction ) , provided an effective correlation ( r2 = 0 . 952 ) of the 65 different B2s values .
The two surface parameters provided a simple yet useful representation of the structure and energy of the carbon surfaces and thus our correlations considered variation in both the adsorbate gas and the adsorbent solid . | Matching Sentences: [ Sen. 4, subscore: 2.00 ]: All B2s values were extrapolated to 403 K to create a set of 65 different gas-solid B2s values at a fixed temperature . Score: 6.00 | Title: Resection of pulmonary and extrapulmonary sarcomatous metastases is associated with long-term survival | Author: Blackmon SH Shah N Roth JA Correa AM Vaporciyan AA Rice DC Hofstetter W Walsh GL Benjamin R Pollock R Swisher SG Mehran R | Journal: Ann Thorac Surg Citation: V : 88 P : 877-84 ; discussion 884-5 Year: 2009 Type: MEDLINE | Literature: oryza Field: abstract Doc ID: pub19699915 Accession (PMID): 19699915 | Abstract: BACKGROUND : The presence of extrapulmonary sarcomatous metastases has traditionally been a contraindication for the resection of pulmonary metastases .
We , therefore , reviewed our experience with resection of pulmonary metastases in patients who had documented extrapulmonary metastases to determine long-term outcome .
METHODS : From 1998 to 2006 , 234 patients underwent pulmonary metastasectomy .
They were grouped as follows : group A ( lung metastasectomy only ) ; group B1 ( with either synchronous or prior extrapulmonary metastasectomy ) ; group B2 ( with nonsurgical treatment of synchronous or prior extrapulmonary metastases ) ; group C1 ( with later extrapulmonary metastasectomy ) ; group C2 ( with later extrapulmonary metastasis which was not resected ) .
RESULTS : Groups A , B1 , and B2 consisted of 147 ( 62 . 8% ) , 26 ( 11 . 1% ) , and 13 ( 5 . 6% ) patients , respectively .
The median survival from lung metastasectomy date was 35 . 5 , 37 . 8 , and 13 . 5 months in groups A , B1 , and B2 , respectively .
Comparison among the three groups showed no significant survival difference in groups A versus B1 ( p = 0 . 96 ) , but a survival difference was found comparing groups A versus B2 ( p < 0 . 001 ) and B1 versus B2 ( p < 0 . 001 ) .
Prognostic factors for increased survival included 3 or greater redo pulmonary operations , greater than 12 month mean time between pulmonary recurrences , greater than 24 month mean time between extrathoracic recurrences , and a prolonged disease-free interval Prognostic factors for decreased survival included 3 or greater pulmonary metastases and group B2 patients .
CONCLUSIONS : These results suggest extrapulmonary metastases should no longer be viewed as a contraindication to resection of sarcomatous pulmonary metastases .
Long-term survival can be achieved when a complete resection is possible for both the pulmonary and extrapulmonary metastases .

To improve the efficacy , bioformulations were developed possessing mixtures of bioagents .
RESULTS : Bioformulations combining Pseudomonas fluorescens Migula strains Pf1 and AH1 and Beauveria bassiana ( Balsamo ) Vuill . isolate B2 were developed and tested for their efficacy against leaffolder pest and sheath blight disease on rice under glasshouse and field conditions .
The combination of Pf1 , AH1 and B2 effectively reduced the incidence of leaffolder insect and sheath blight disease on rice compared with other treatments .
An in vitro assay of leaffolder preference to rice leaf it issues treated with Pf1 + AH1 + B2 biformulation showed variation from normal growth and development of leaffolder larvae .
Plants treated with the Pf1 + AH1 + B2 combination showed a greater accumulation of enzymes , lipoxygenase and chitinase activity against leaffolder insect compared with other treatments .
Similarly , the plants showed a higher accumulation of defence enzymes , peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activity against sheath blight pathogen in Pf1 + AH1 + B2 treatment compared with the untreated control .
The bioformulation mixture attracted the natural enemy population of leaffolder under field conditions .
In addition , a significant increase in rice grain yield was observed in Pf1 + AH1 + B2 treatment compared with the untreated control .
CONCLUSION : The combination of P fluorescens strains and B bassiana isolate effectively reduced the incidence of leaffolder insect and sheath blight disease on rice plants and showed the possibility of controlling both pest and disease using a single bioformulation .

| Author: Frisvad JC Smedsgaard J Samson RA Larsen TO Thrane U | Journal: J Agric Food Chem Citation: V : 55 P : 9727-32 Year: 2007 Type: MEDLINE | Literature: oryza Field: abstract Doc ID: pub17929891 Accession (PMID): 17929891 | Abstract: The carcinogenic mycotoxin fumonisin B2 was detected for the first time in the industrially important Aspergillus niger .
Fumonisin B2 , known from Fusarium verticillioides and other Fusaria , was detected in cultures of three full genome sequenced strains of A niger , in the ex type culture and in a culture of F verticillioides by electrospray LC-MS analysis of methanolic extracts from agar plugs of cultures grown on several substrates .
Whereas F verticillioides produced fumonisins B1 , B2 , and B3 on agar media based on plant extracts , such as barley malt , oat , rice , potatoes , and carrots , A niger produced fumonisin B2 best on agar media with a low water activity , including Czapek yeast autolysate agar with 5% NaCl .
Of the media tested , only rice corn steep agar supported fumonisin production by both F verticillioides and A niger .
However , A niger had a different regulation of fumonisin production and a different quantitative profile of fumonisins , producing only B2 as compared to F verticillioides .
Fumonisin production by A niger , which is a widely occurring species and an extremely important industrial organism , will have very important implications for biotechnology and especially food safety .
A niger is used for the production of citric acid and as producer of extracellular enzymes , and also as a transformation host for the expression of heterologous proteins .
Certain strains of A niger produce both ochratoxin A and fumonisins , so some foods and feeds may potentially contain two types of carcinogenic mycotoxins from this species .

The SDS-PAGE profile of total protein and insertion sequence-based polymerase chain reaction ( IS-PCR ) fingerprinting grouped the isolates into four clusters ( I-IV ) .
The 16S rRNA gene sequence homology of the representative strains B21 , B31 , B1 , and B23 of clusters I , II , III , and IV were assigned to Pseudomonas oleovorans ( 99 . 2% similarity ) , Burkholderia fungorum ( 99 . 4% similarity ) , Enterobacter cloacae ( 98 . 9% similarity ) , and Acinetobacter johnsonii ( 98 . 4% similarity ) , respectively .
The results showed wide genetic diversity of the putative diazotrophic strains of the wild rice , O alta , and the strains of cluster IV are the first report of nitrogen-fixing Acinetobacter species .
The cell size , phenotypic characters , total protein profile , genomic DNA fingerprinting , DNA-DNA hybridization , and antibiotic resistance differentiated strain B23 ( T ) from its closest relatives A johnsonii LMG999 ( T ) and Acinetobacter haemolyticus LMG996 ( T ) .

METHODS AND RESULTS : Ninety-five thymic tumours were circulated to a group of 17 pathologists in the UK and The Netherlands over a 1-year period .
Participants were asked to classify them according to WHO criteria .
The diagnoses were subjected to statistical analysis and kappa values calculated .
The overall level of agreement was moderate ( kappa 0 . 45 ) .
When the categories were reduced in number by creating two groups , ( A + AB + B1 + B2 and B3 + C ) , the level of agreement increased to 0 . 62 .
An alternative grouping ( A + AB + B1 and B2 + B3 + C ) increased it slightly further .
The best agreement was in tumour types A and AB .
Difficulties arose in distinguishing B1 tumours from B2 tumours and B2 tumours from B3 tumours .
CONCLUSIONS : Although the WHO system describes a number of well-defined tumour types with clear diagnostic criteria , the overall level of agreement was moderate and improved if some groups were amalgamated .

In this report , we applied this method to analyze aflatoxins in nuts , giant corn , cereals , spice and black teas .
The method was effective for macadamia nuts , walnuts , hazelnuts , brazil nuts , giant corn , rice , wheat and buckwheat , and the recoveries of aflatoxins B1 , B2 , G1 and G2 spiked in them at the level of 10 ng/g were 85-106% .
However , in the chromatograms of spices and black tea , many background peaks were observed .
Therefore , we added a purification step with an affinity column to the clean-up of these samples with the multifunctional cartridge column .
After the additional purification , most of the background peaks were gone .
The recoveries of aflatoxins B1 , B2 and G1 spiked at the level of 10 ng/g were 71-112% except for the case of B2 in white pepper ( 48% ) .
The recoveries of G2 were 49-95% .
